  • The ECA Council voted to send a $500 donation to help with the relief efforts after the devastation of  Hurricane Matthew, and also collect cleaning items, canned foods, personal toiletry items, bleach, bottled water, new adult and children’s socks, garbage bags, etc., for the Whiteville and Columbus County area.
  • Cabarrus ECA is also collecting personal toiletry items, books, cards, etc., for the Veteran’s Hospital in Salisbury.
  • The new ECA Special Interest Crafts Club met on Thursday afternoon, November 10, at 4 p.m. in the Extension Conference Room.
  • The countywide Holiday Program for all members and guests was held on Thursday, November 17, at both 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Extension Office. Alice Moody presented a wonderful and informative program on “Decorating with Natural Materials.”
  • All 2017 Club Issue Coordinators are invited and encouraged to attend the 2017 Issue Coordinators Planning Meeting and training on Monday, November 28, at 12 noon.
  • The 2017 ECA Calendar Planning will be held on Wednesday, November 30, at 12 noon at the Extension Office.
  • The recent ECA State Meeting held in Winston Salem was a very good meeting with lots of great workshops! Many of our Cabarrus members were recognized.
    • Capturing first place statewide ECA Cultural Arts honors were:  Peggy McAnulty, Quilting; Nancy Carlson, Ceramics; Barbara Looney, Fabric Dolls; and Linda Kay Bittle, Scrapbooking!
    • Earning second place state honors were:  Elaine Ramsey, Watercolors; Marsha Scott, Crocheting; and Linda Black, Holiday Decorations.
    • Frances Suther earned third place honors with her Flower Arrangement/wreath.
    • Peggy McAnulty’s quilt entry was named “Best of the Show”!!!!
    • Gary Greene of the Lake Wacamaw Boys and Girls Home recognized Cabarrus County ECA with a certificate of appreciation!
    • Linda Kay Bittle received a plaque in recognition of her 15,000 hours of CVU service.
    • Bobbie Sheperis received a plaque for her 20,000 hours of CVU service.
    • Pat Wickliff received a plaque for her 35,000 hours of CVU service.
    • Cabarrus County received the Gold Award for its CVU service hours.
    • Gail Linker received the Outstanding Volunteer Award for Cabarrus County and CVU participation.
    • Barbara Looney received the SC District Leadership Award.
    • ECA President Faye Lanier presented an 2017 ECA Outstanding Volunteer Award to Gail Linker and Bobbie Sheperis .
