Collapse ▲Cabarrus County 4-H is seeking adult volunteers to work with youth interested in farm animals. Adults do not need an animal science background or youth development background – just an interest in animals and investing in the future! In all of 4-H – We learn by doing!

We have youth interested in the following teams and need coaches to lend a hand!
Avian Bowl – teams of 4 youth in a quiz bowl style competition with questions focused on chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, and other poultry. Adults are needed to help with mock competitions, organizing study sessions and preparing students. No avian knowledge necessary – all questions come from handbook. The perfect adult for this would be someone who loves fun competition and figuring out fun ways to study and practice. Adult would also handle logistics for attending competitions.
Poultry Judging – Teams of youth judge eggs and birds from various poultry species for quality to be sold at market. Adults are needed to help manage study sessions, facilitate mock competitions and handle logistics for attending competitions. We have study materials. Previous knowledge of poultry industry helpful, but not required.
Livestock Judging – Teams of youth judge live animals and give verbal reasons to justify rankings. Adults are needed to help facilitate study sessions and collaborate with 4-H and Livestock agents for farm visits. We have study materials. Species include Beef Cattle, Goat, Sheep, and Swine. Any show experience is helpful, but not required.
Dairy Judging – Teams of youth judge live dairy cattle and give verbal reasons to justify ranking. Adults are needed to help facilitate study sessions and collaborate with 4-H and Livestock Agents for farm visits. We have study materials. Any show experience is helpful, but not required.
Livestock Skill-a-thon – Youth compete as a team or individually in stations related to livestock. Items can include tools, species, processing questions, medication, husbandry, housing, quality, judging live animals and more. This fun round-robin competition allows youth to experience a wide variety of livestock-related content in a short amount of time. Adults are needed to help facilitate study sessions and collaborate with 4-H and Livestock agents for farm visits.
