Kissing Bug

Is it really a Kissing Bug? Please look at the images of these insects before making a complaint about the kissing bug being in your home. Leave the wheel bug alone, it is a beneficial insect. If you are positive you have a kissing bug in your home, collect it in a glass jar and pour some rubbing alcohol into the jar and bring to your local extension office. Please do not smash them and put them in a jar or take a photo after you have killed them.    For more information on kissing bugs visit this website:  http://ncsupdicblog.blogspot.com/2015/11/kissing-bugs-and-chagas-disease-in-nc.html Please contact Lauren Duncan Cabarrus County Horticulture Agent  704-920-3320 lhdunca3@ncsu.edu

Beekeeping Series

Beekeeping Series for beginners to intermediate NINE sessions held TUESDAYS, 7-9pm January 19 - March 15, 2016 Register Online HERE Click HERE to print a brochure and mail-in registration form Beekeeping for many is a hobby, art or perhaps a profession with many different facets.  Our goal is to teach North Carolina beekeeeping, recruit and mentor new beekeepers.  Upon completion of the series and field day, participants will have been exposed to all of the knowledge needed to receive certification upon passing the state exam. Certified beekeepers will share the history, background, bee anatomy, equipment and products involved with beekeeping.  Participants will learn how to get started with beekeeping, manage hives safely and to "think like a bee".  In addition, participants will learn how to retrieve and process honey from hives. This series is instructed by certified beekeepers of the Cabarrus County Beekeeping Association. Classes are held on Tuesdays from 7-9pm at the NC Cooperative Extension Office, Cabarrus County Center (715 Cabarrus Ave West, Concord, NC  28027).
