Cabarrus Regional Small Farms Boot Camp: Empowering New and Beginning Farmers


The Cabarrus County Center of N.C. Cooperative Extension is excited to announce the Cabarrus Regional Small Farms Boot Camp — a comprehensive, multi-session educational program designed specifically for small-scale and beginning farmers in Cabarrus and surrounding counties.


This boot camp is tailored to address the unique challenges faced by new farmers as they establish and grow their agricultural businesses. Participants will gain practical knowledge and hands-on skills in areas such as:

  • Business planning and farm financing

  • Soil health and sustainable practices

  • Crop and livestock production

  • Marketing and direct sales

  • Navigating local and state resources


In addition to expert instruction, attendees will benefit from networking opportunities with fellow farmers, agricultural professionals, and Extension staff dedicated to supporting local food and farm systems.

Program Overview

The NC Small Farms Boot Camp is a comprehensive, hands-on program designed to help small farm owners and aspiring farmers build a strong foundation for success.Participants will gain practical knowledge on essential farming topics, including:
  • Business planning
  • Sustainable practices
  • Crop management
  • Marketing strategies
The program includes a mix of classroom sessions, field trips, and real-world examples, offering a valuable learning opportunity from experienced professionals.Field Trip Dates:
  • July 12th: Mecklenburg County
  • July 19th: Rowan County
  • July 26th: Cabarrus County

This program, launching in July 2025, is tailored for new and aspiring farmers, market gardeners, and homesteaders. It aims to help small-scale farmers enhance their knowledge and skills in:
  • Local food production
  • Market collaboration
  • Community building

Time: Each session begins at 6:00 p.m. Cost: $80 per participant for the full series.
