CONCORD, N.C. – The N.C. Cooperative Extension is launching its Fall 2025 Programs with a variety of offerings for all ages, focusing on agriculture, healthy lifestyles, and youth development. The programs, hosted by N.C. A&T State University and NC State University, will be held at 715 Cabarrus Ave W unless otherwise noted.

Upcoming Events

Several key events are scheduled for the fall:

  • Creek Week will be held from September 21-27 and is hosted by Cabarrus Soil & Water.
  • Our Extension Fall Plant Sale is scheduled, with pre-orders available online until October 31. You can find more information and place your order at  go.ncsu.edu/cabarrusfallplantsale.
  • Barrel Distribution (perfect for rain barrels) event will take place from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Cabarrus Brewing Company. https://forms.gle/rdymB9wuTtLucP7e9
  • Farm Tours will be held on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to noon, with locations varying. You can register for the tours at go.ncsu.edu/registercabarrus.

Healthy Lifestyles

The “Healthy Lifestyles” series includes several classes. Go.ncsu.edu/registercabarrus

  • Two classes on Seasonal Foods will be held: Winter Squash  on September 29 from 5:30p to 7:30p (fee $15)  and Repurpose Your Leftover Turkey on November 19 from 5:30p to 7:30p (fee $15)
  • Soups and Pressure Canning class will be held on November 12 from 10a to 2p. The fee is $20.

Youth Development

The “4-H Youth Development” programs will offer hands-on experiences for children and teens. Register at go.ncsu.edu/registercabarrus

  • In October, the Youth Market will be on the 11th from 9 a.m. to noon, and Kids in the Kitchen: Italian Inspired will be on the 13th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each class has a $10 fee for ages 8-18 and 8-13, respectively.
  • Sewing 101 classes for ages 8-13 are scheduled for November 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The class costs $35, with an option to either use your own machine or a borrowed one.
  • The November Youth Market for ages 8-18 will be on the 8th from 9 a.m. to noon, with a $10 fee.

 

Plants & Horticulture

A number of gardening classes are also on the agenda, with most held at 715 Cabarrus Ave W. Topics include:

  • Fall Seed Start-up (Fee: $20)
  • Garden Landscape (Fee: $15)
  • Native Container Gardening (Fee: $10)
  • Plant Propagation (Fee: $20)
  • Alternative Lawn (Fee: $20)

Animals & Agriculture

A number of Backyard Livestock Basics Classes are planned including:

  • Poultry (10/8)
  • Small Ruminants (10/15)
  • Dairy (10/22)
  • Pork (10/29)
