If so, we invite you to join the Extension Master Gardener program and make a lasting impact in your community!

Extension Master Gardener Timeline:

August 1st, 2025: Open for applications

EMG Application 2026

Nov 1st, 2025—Deadline for Applications

Nov 19th, 2025: Meet & Greet

Dec 1st,  2025 Background Checks Due

Jan 1st, 2026 Online Class Opens

Hands On Training Days

Day 1 – Feb 5th 2026, 1 p.m.-5 p.m.

Day 2- July 14th 2026, 8:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.

Day 3- Oct 24th 2026, 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. (With Lunch)

Dec 1st 2026- Graduation 

Class Structure:

Each student will have access to online classes on Jan 1st 2026, each chapter and quiz are to be completed independently. Online Classes are to be completed by Dec 1st 2026. Each student is required to come to the Hands On Training Days within the year. Additional learning opportunities are available at any Cabarrus county extension programs. These classes may be offered at a reduced price to volunteers at the discretion of the instructor.

Initial Training Fee   (Required for each participant) $75
Option A Online Textbook and Videos Free
Option B Textbook (Hardcover) $55

Program Details:

  • Initial Training (2026): Open to everyone in the community who has a passion for educating their community! This (40 hour) training covers essential gardening practices, focusing on science-based methods. Students are welcome to join monthly EMGV meetings, programs hosted by EMGV & Cabarrus County Extension and other volunteer opportunities.
  • Internship (2027): Upon completing the initial training, students will participate in a 40-hour internship throughout the calendar year. This hands-on experience is a crucial step toward earning the Extension Master Gardener Certification.
  • Certification (2028): Students who complete both the training and internship will receive their Extension Master Gardener Certification. This certification is renewed annually through continuing education and volunteer hours.
