Description: Fall Seed Germination Workshop

Get a head start on your cool-season garden! In this hands-on program, you'll learn the science and best practices for germinating fall vegetable seeds - and leave fully equipped to nurture seedlings at home. 

What You'll Learn
  • Germination Basics: Understand temperature, moisture, and light requirements for fall crops.
  • Equipment Setup:  How to use a seed tray and heating mat for consistent soil warmth and even sprouting. 
  • Seed Selection & Timing: Best practices for sowing lettuce, radish, cilantro, spinach, cabbage, and bok choy in autumn. 
  • Seedling Care: Tips on thinning, watering, and hardening off to ensure strong transplants.
  • Troubleshooting:  Identify and prevent damping-off, leggy seedlings, and other common issues.
Hands-On Activity
  1. Assemble your seed tray and heating mat station
  2. Practice sowing techniques for each crop
  3. Calibrate your mat's temperature settings
  4. Label trays and set up humidity covers for optimal moisture
